In this Interview, Tracy tells us more about the 11 World's Best Refineries and what makes them the best: they're good at energy efficiency, reliability, they have high operating availability and they invest in the right technology. She also says that the best refineries are quicker at improving their energy efficiency and at reducing the amount of fuel oil that they produce.

INTERVIEW WITH ROBIN NELSON, CONCAWE

Robin Nelson, Science Director, Concawe took part in several Panels at ERTC 2018, including "Taking the Pulse" and "Engineering the Future and Creating a United Message for the Downstream Industry".

INTERVIEW WITH PETER BLASER, CPFD

Peter Blaser, Vice President of Engineering Services, CPFD spoke at ERTC 2018 in Cannes about Simulation as a Risk-Reduction Tool for Turnaround Planning.

CELEBRATING WOMEN IN THE DOWNSTREAM INDUSTRY

In celebration of International Women’s Day, the World Refining Association caught up with some of the women that make our global downstream events series a success – the speakers, advisors and sponsors that join us every year to discuss the latest technologies and trends in refining and petrochemicals.

Ranging from process engineers to senior executives, their experiences reflect life for women in the downstream sector across Europe, Asia and the Middle East, offering some interesting similarities and unexpected contrasts. We asked them for their views on gender balance in the refining industry, the challenges of working in a male-dominated sector, and the work that still needs to be done to make equality a reality.

INTERVIEW WITH JORIS MERTENS, KBC

KBC, the leading technology-based consultancy, will be presenting at this year’s ERTC conference about the new IMO sulphur bunker fuel regulation. Joris Mertens, Senior Staff Consultant at KBC will be discussing the global specification that requires oil businesses to reduce their sulphur fuel consumption by 0.5% and the impact this will have on the shipping and refining industries.

Can you give us an update on the STAR Refinery integration project since last year?
The project so far is on schedule and budget, the contractor has taken advantage of some very competitive pricing both in equipment supply and sub contract prices. All long lead items such as reactors, compressors, large columns and coke drums have been ordered and are currently on schedule to be delivered on the required contractual dates, extensive inspection and expediting is being carried out globally.
